Eat in Berkeley: Crixa Cakes

Coconut Cream Cake made with vanilla chiffon, coconut custard, whipped cream, and shredded coconut

Florio made with almond meringue, raspberry eau de vie, rose-flavored creme mousseline, and crushed amoretti

Crixa Cakes is a bakery and café located on Adeline between Ward and Stuart in South Berkeley. They specialize in Hungarian, Russian, Central European, and American baked goods. When you step inside, it feels like you're in a European café.

When I visited a few weeks ago, I tried the Coconut Cream Cake and the Florio. Both were very good. The coconut cake was made with velvety chiffon cake, creamy coconut custard in the middle, whipped cream and shredded coconut on the outside. It's a piece of heaven. The Florio was made with almond meringue, raspberry eau de vie, rose-flavored creme mousseline, and crushed amoretti. It had hints of fruit and is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

The next time I stop by, I'll try the Boston Cream Pie or the Chocolate Mousse. If you've visited Crixa Cakes, what have you tried?
