Eat in Nashville: Ellendale’s

Seared Atlantic Salmon with cioppino vinaigrette, sauteed spinach, and garlic

Braised Short-Rib with Seared Shrimp and Grits with aged cheddar, green beans, pimento relish, and shoestring potatoes

Last week I spent some time exploring Nashville. I had dinner at Ellendale's, a restaurant that specializes in Southern cuisine with a modern touch.

I ordered the Braised Short-Rib with Seared Shrimp and Grits. It was pretty good. The short-rib was very tender; so much so, it came apart easily under my fork. The gravy on top had a lot of flavor. The shrimp and grits were a highlight. The shrimp was fresh and the grits were made with the right amount of butter. They were balanced well by the freshly cut green beans and red peppers. I also tried a bit of the Seared Atlantic Salmon, which was prepared perfectly.

Ellendale's has a charming interior. The front of the restaurant looks like a converted house with patrons eating in different rooms on either side. It has a very comfortable vibe. The back of the restaurant has contemporary design elements as seen in the use of reclaimed wood, old-fashioned light fixtures, and mixed materials throughout. They also have live music and a bar in this section, making it a great place for dinner in Music City.

If you've visited Ellendale's, what do you recommend trying?
