Last week, I was invited to visit Barbarossa Lounge by the lovely ladies at Provocateur Media. I met up with Rebecca of Provocateur Media, Aimee of The Ohio Transplant, and my friend Amanda. Barbarossa is a sleek cocktail bar and lounge on Montgomery at the southern tip of North Beach, a few paces from the Financial District. The Barbary Coast themed venue features a dark interior with cheeky references to Alcatraz and the red light district which this location was known for. They serve a variety of delicious, well-made cocktails as well as an impressive menu of food.

I ordered the Lady Killigrew, which was made with rum, pisco, Kalani Coconut Liqueur, banana, allspice, and lime. It was quite good. It's clear the bartenders are expert at what they're doing and care about what they make. I would definitely order this drink again. One thing about this place is that it's hard to decide which drink to order. I was torn by a few other options like Madame Lucy's Reign, made with reposado tequila, Cardamaro, pear, lemon, and jasmine, and Bonny's Misfortune, made with aged rum, sherry, chicory, and chocolate.

Along with our drinks, we ordered a few dishes, the first of which was the Sausage plate with boudin blanc and lamb masala sausages with persimmon mustard on the side. These sausages were very flavorful and just the right texture. We also had the Ahi tuna plate with pickled shallot, pistachio, melon radish, and house nori cracker. The tuna had a nice kick and was complemented by the cracker's milder taste and texture well. We also had the Cheese plate with a variety of delicious cheeses. All of the food tasted great and rounded out the experience well.

After hanging out for a bit, we took a tour of the bar and lounge on both floors. There are keys from Alcatraz and key-patterned designs on the walls throughout the black and red interior. They have a very spacious bottom floor with sleek booths and chairs for larger parties. When you visit, be sure to check out the wallpaper near the restrooms. ;)

Special thanks to Barbarossa and Provocateur Media for the lovely evening and the great experience. If you've visited Barbarossa Lounge before, what do you recommend trying?
