Eat in San Francisco: La Fromagerie

L'Italien made with Prosciutto di Parma, Burrata Mozzarella, roma tomato, basil, extra virgin olive oil, and salt and pepper

While on a lunch break, I stopped by La Fromagerie, a French cheese shop that sells sandwiches and salads on Montgomery between Bush and Sutter in the Financial District.

For my first visit, I opted to try L'Italien made with Prosciutto di Parma, Burrata Mozzarella, roma tomato, basil, extra virgin olive oil, and salt and pepper. It was quite good. The ingredients were all fresh and the complemented each other perfectly.

If you've visited La Fromagerie recently, what do you recommend trying?

Eat in Oakland: Nyum Bai

Kuy Teav Phnom Penh: rice noodle soup with minced pork and shrimp in 7-hour pork broth, topped with herbs and crispy garlic

I visited Nyum Bai, a hip Cambodian restaurant located on E. 12th Street steps away from the Fruitvale BART station, for the second time last week.

I ordered the dish I had last time: Kuy Teav Phnom Penh, which is a rice noodle soup made with minced pork and shrimp in 7-hour pork broth, topped with herbs and crispy garlic. Like before, I ate (& drank) every last drop. I've never had Cambodian food before, but this soup reminded me of a sweet pho. It has the healthy, fresh ingredients pho is known for -- rice noodles, sprouts, cilantro, and a clear broth -- with a nice sweet taste throughout. I really liked the minced pork and shrimp as well, which really rounded out this classic comfort dish.

My friends have also tried and enjoyed some of their other dishes, like the Ginger Fried Chicken, Naim Chien Banla (fried veggie eggrolls), and Kuy Teav Cha (stir-fried rice noodles topped with a fried egg). The next time I stop by I'd be happy to chose from one of these dishes, or honestly, anything else on the menu since it's all quite good.

Besides the delicious food, Nyum Bai has a sleek interior of complementary light pink and blue accents any Millennial would appreciate.

Eat in San Francisco: Steep Creamery & Tea

Earl Grey Lavender Milk Tea

I visited Steep Creamery & Tea, a milk tea and shaved ice cream spot on Brannan and 2nd in SoMa, for the first time this week. I ordered a hot Earl Grey Lavender Milk Tea with 75% sweetness. It was really good. The flavors were balanced between subtle and overpowering and the drink was prepared perfectly. It's a great afternoon pick-me-up.

A week ago I was invited to attend a media preview of Oeste, a cafe located on Clay between 7th and 8th Streets in Old Oakland. Right next to their bar by the same name, the new cafe offers a variety of sandwiches and salads, special treats like Spanish tortilla and bread pudding, and delicious coffee drinks like the Lavender Oat Milk Latte.

I had the opportunity to try a bit of everything. The salads were made with fresh ingredients, while the sandwiches had the dynamic flavors I like. I really enjoyed the Lavender Oat Milk Latte, whose lavender flavor wasn't overpowering.

I would definitely stop by Oeste the next time I'm looking for brunch in Old Oakland. If you've been to Oeste, what do you recommend trying?

Thanks to Christina of East Bay Dish for the invitation!
