Eat in Burbank: Porto's Bakery & Café (Pt. 2)

Raspberry Passion Fruit Macaron

Fruit Tart

When visiting Los Angeles a few weeks ago, I made sure to stop by Porto's Bakery & Café in Burbank.

I picked up two treats I've never tried before: a Raspberry Passion Fruit Macaron and a Fruit Tart. Both were quite good. The macaron was made with fresh raspberries and a tangy passion fruit filling. The macaron shell had the slight crunch I like. The fruit tart was made with fresh strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, and apple. The custard had a nice flavor that complemented the crust well.

In addition to these desserts, we also stayed for lunch. I had the Cubano sandwich made with slow-roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and Cuban dressing on Cuban bread with plantain chips on the side. It's one of my favorites.

If you've visited Porto's recently, what did you recommend trying?

Eat in Burbank: Porto's Bakery & Café

Red Velvet Cupcake and an Iced Mocha

Carrot cake and Parisian chocolate cake

I stopped by Porto's Bakery & Café with my mom for the first time last week. This Cuban bakery is known for their huge selection of baked goods, cakes, and sandwiches. When we visited their Burbank location on W. Magnolia Boulevard, we tried a bit of each.

For lunch, I had a Cubano sandwich made with pork, ham, Swiss, pickles, butter, and mustard and mayonnaise mix on Cuban bread, while my mom ordered Porto's Veggie sandwich with roasted eggplant, red bell peppers, zucchini, Havarti, hummus spread, lettuce, and tomatoes on wheat. Both were very good and filling. The ingredients were all very fresh, especially the bread they baked in-house. They came with a side of light and crunchy plantain chips.

For dessert, we ordered a Red Velvet Cupcake, Carrot cake, and Parisian chocolate cake, all of which were very moist. The cupcake had a good helping of cream cheese frosting on top, while the Parisian had a creamy chocolate mousse-like layer. I also had a delicious Iced Mocha, which was as chocolaty as I desired.

What's great about Porto's is that it's very well-priced and the wait is pretty manageable given how popular it is. The next time I stop by, I'll try the Cappuccino Mousse or the Caramel Flan.

If you've visited Porto's, what did you enjoy trying?
