Eat in San Francisco: The Citrus Club

Daily Special: Thai Coconut Shrimp Wonton Soup

This past weekend, I stopped by The Citrus Club with a couple of old friends. Located firmly in the Haight, this Asian fusion noodle house serves a variety of soups perfect for a chilly day in the city. Being uncharacteristically adventurous and opting out of ordering pad thai or some type of pho, I instead chose one of the specials, the Thai Coconut Shrimp Wonton Soup.

Like its name, the soup was quite a mouthful. It was served in one of the largest soup bowls I've ever seen, along with a spoon big enough to hold two wontons simultaneously. The soup's coconut chicken broth surrounded the shrimp wonton, cabbage wedges, sliced carrots, and rice noodles. Contrary to what I expected, the broth's richness wasn't overpowering. It was filling and contrasted with the fresh vegetables rather well. The shrimp had a lot more flavor than anticipated, which makes sense since these wontons were made in-house.

The Citrus Club is great to try after a day exploring Golden Gate Park and taking a break from the San Francisco cold.
