Candied Maple Bacon ice cream
Ici Ice Cream is a local institution in the Berkeley food scene. Located on College at Ashby in Elmwood, Ici serves gourmet ice cream and sorbet in a variety of sweet and savory flavors. It's one of the first places new college students are encouraged to try and often has a line going halfway down the block. It was started by Mary Canales, a former Chez Panisse pastry chef, so you know you're in for something special.
On my most recent visit, I tried the Candied Maple Bacon. Similar to the Brown Butter Candied Bacon I tried at Coolhaus in Culver City, Ici's had a salty base and huge chunks of candied bacon throughout. The bacon pieces were pretty sizable and will definitely satisfy any bacon fiend. It had a good balance of sweet and savory, which I enjoyed.
