Eat in San Francisco: Iza Ramen

Regular Iza Tsukemen: ramen noodle with a separate dipping soup, ume shiso plum chicken, slow-cooked BBQ pork, marinated egg, green onion, bean sprouts, bamboo shoot, and fresh seaweed

This past weekend my friend and I planned to visit Mensho Ramen on Geary in Lower Nob Hill. After meeting the terribly long line they're known for, we opted to try Iza Ramen in the Lower Haight instead. We made the right decision: Iza had a more manageable line and its surrounding neighborhood was quite lovely during the golden hour. Iza started as a weekend-only pop-up in the Mission and opened this permanent location last October.

I ordered the Regular Iza Tsukemen ramen with a separate dipping soup, ume shiso plum chicken, slow-cooked BBQ pork, marinated egg, green onion, bean sprouts, bamboo shoot, and fresh seaweed. I've only ever had tsukemen ramen at Tsujita LA Artisan Noodle in Los Angeles. It was quite good. The broth was thick like I remembered and filled with everything I like in a bowl of ramen. My friend really enjoyed the Regular Iza Ramen with their special broth (a mix of tonkotsu, chicken, bonito tuna, and vegetable broth), slow-cooked BBQ pork, a marinated egg, spicy green onion, bean sprouts, nori, and fresh seaweed.

If you've visited Iza Ramen recently, what do you recommend trying?
