Last week I attended the media preview for Bardo Lounge & Supper Club in Oakland, a hop, skip, and a jump away from Lake Merritt. Previously known as Michel, Bardo is a completely reinvented concept from Michel's previous incarnation. It's a mid-century themed restaurant that serves vintage recipes for drinks below in the lounge area and more traditional dining in the lofted area above. The space is fully redesigned and will make you feel like you're in a stylish living room from the '50s or '60s. (If you don't believe me, pull up a fainting couch and check out these photos of the interior. You will swoon.)
When I visited for the media preview, I was treated to a delicious drink and a few appetizers. I enjoyed the Papa Bear, while my friend had A Walk in the Orchard. Both drinks were refreshing and have dynamic flavors. If you stop by just for a drink, you will be satisfied. We then tried a few of the appetizers, including the Deviled Duck Eggs, Porcupine Meat Balls, Chilled Chicken, and vegetables from the Crudité platter. Everything was quite good. They gave everyone's favorite deviled eggs some dimension by adding the spiced red wine jus and scallions. Although not made with porcupine, the meat balls had a nice crunchy attributed to the crispy rice they're made with.
If these appetizers and cocktails were any indication, I would definitely stop by Bardo Lounge & Supper Club for a Grasshopper and a retro-themed dinner in the future. They will be open to the public on October 10th. Please check their website for the exact hours of operation.
Thanks so much to Clare from Provocateur Media for inviting me!
