Eat in San Francisco: Del Popolo

Shaved Nantes Carrot salad made with avocado, crispy chickpeas, and salsa rosa

Arrabbiata pizza made with spicy crushed tomato, red onion, parsley, pecorino, and house made sausage

A couple weeks ago I visited Del Popolo, a sleek Italian restaurant in Lower Nob Hill on Bush at Taylor, for the first time.

My dining companion and I ordered a couple dishes: the Shaved Nantes Carrot salad made with avocado, crispy chickpeas, and salsa rosa, and the Arrabbiata pizza made with spicy crushed tomato, red onion, parsley, pecorino, and house made sausage. Both were very good. The salad was so perfectly Californian in its fresh, bright, and light ingredients. The Neapolitan style pizza had generous pieces of sausage and a fluffy crust that I will be remembering for a while. We ordered the Inizi “Hi-Jump” rosé, which paired with our dishes perfectly.

We sat in their beautiful back patio area that truly felt like a respite from busy city life. They have a large seating area, lined with lights and heating lamps, with every table spaced pretty far apart.

The next time I stop by, I might try the Bianca or Potato pizzas. If you've visited Del Popolo recently, what do you recommend trying?
