Hojicha Chocolate Croissant made with roasty green tea and dark chocolate filling
Matcha Cookies n' Cream Rice Krispies Treat
Ube Snickerdoodle made with coconut
After seeing a line snake outside Sunday Bakeshop the past few weeks, I finally visited the popular Asian-themed bakery last weekend. Located on College between Harwood and Chabot in Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood, Sunday Bakeshop serves classic French pastries and American dessert favorites with an Asian twist.
I ordered three items while there: the Hojicha Chocolate Croissant, the Matcha Cookies n' Cream Rice Krispies Treat, and the Ube Snickerdoodle. Everything was inventive and had a unique flavor I appreciated. For the first, imagine a traditional chocolate croissant with rich dark chocolate filling and subtle tea flavor baked throughout. The second tasted like a classic Rice Krispies Treat with that distinct matcha flavor—definitely one for the matcha fiends. The Ube Snickerdoodle had ube's notable purple coloring and was made with shredded coconut.
Next time I stop by, I might try the Thai Tea Bun. If you've visited Sunday Bakeshop, what do you recommend trying?
