Eat in San Francisco: West of Pecos

Rice & Beans

Smoked Chicken Enchiladas made with honey-habanero sauce

The In-Famous El Guapo margarita made with tequila, blood orange, pineapple, and tajin salt

I've only been to West of Pecos, a popular Southwestern restaurant and cocktail bar on Valencia between 16th and 17th in the Mission, a couple of times. On the most recent trip, it was an uncomfortably hot mid-October day.

We ordered a few things while there: chips and guacamole to start, the Smoked Chicken Enchiladas with rice and beans on the side, and the In-Famous El Guapo margarita. Although it's been a while since the visit, I remember thinking the food was very photogenic, but lacked that extra something that I'm used to with Mexican food. Alas, their Southwestern food is not known for spiciness, so it might be better to treat this as a cocktail bar with decent food to accompany their expansive margarita, michelada, and cocktail menu.

If you've been to West of Pecos, what do you recommend?
