I visited Brotzeit Lokal — a casual German restaurant on Embarcadero, just east of Jack London Square, in East Oakland — with my dining companion for the first time earlier this month.
We split a few German classics: the Potato Pancakes, which were made with Yukon Gold potatoes, flour, egg, and green onion, and served with sour cream and homemade apple sauce, and Bretzel and Obadzta, the latter of which was a spread of Brie, cream cheese, herb, and pilsner. To drink, I tried the Blindwood Honey Sage Cider and my dining companion had the König Pilsener.
Everything was delicious. I really enjoyed the crispy pancakes with the tang of sour cream and apple sauce, while the pretzel was fun to eat with a scoop of the obadzta in each bite. The cider was interesting; the sage flavor made it seem like a perfect complement to a German sausage. Next time!
I would definitely stop by after a nice bike ride in the future. If you've been to Brotzeit Lokal, what would you recommend?
