What drew me into this boy's outfit were his star-shaped earrings. Though hard to see in the photograph, the 0.5 inch-diameter gold studs fluidly complement the large turquoise text and faint lilac palm tree backdrop of his tank.
I will definitely not regret spotting these lipstick red beauties. From the elegant ankle straps to the patent-leather shine, there is not much else I can ask for in a red heel.
Although I don't usually condone stealing, I might just have to make an exception. Swiped from her sister's closet, these plaid ankle boots have a slouch that were begging to be photographed. The additional button detail is just asking for me to undergo cardiac arrest!
Can you say "sparkle, sparkle"?! Because that's exactly what these suede gems are doing! Reminiscent of a chunky diamond bracelet recently posted on Jak & Jil Blog, these 1.5 inch heels were worn by a quite stylish BARE Magazine staff member. Boy, she sure knows how to pick 'em!
This girl skipped off of campus in an impeccable ensemble of a charcoal gray coat, white skirt, and intentionally-ripped black tights. I have to admit that it took me a while to compose myself after laying my eyes on the carefully-cut creations that grace her legs. Wouldn't you agree?
This is another example of personal style at its finest. She pairs contrasting red and green elements with silver, gray, and black, resulting in a product hardly short of eye-popping.
HAAS SCHOOL OF BUSINESS Check out these bad boys! Not only do these babies completely obliterate how we traditionally define boots, they do so with a plaid and leather edge. Worn by a Jak & Jil Blog reader, these boots leave little room for error. In the same way I like my steak: well done.
COLLEGE & ASHBY This all-black, all-chic ensemble includes a 1920s-inspired netted headband, lace-like skirt, and matching flats and jacket. The intricate details of the skirt and the headband take this outfit a step back in time to make it well-played for the Jazz Era as well as the present.
HERTZ HALL So I made a street-wear blog a bit more mathematical. Forgive me. Rather, you should thank this girl for wearing these heels. Neutral hues, perpendicular lines, and studded details? Little room for error here. I should change the title of this post from "Right Angles" to "The Right Angles" because, boy, these heels are!
SPROUL PLAZA I spotted this girl by her tights as she was tabling for a student organization -- and in mid-conversation (sorry for interrupting) -- on Sproul. I couldn't get over the combination of the patterned tights and charcoal gray boots. I just had to photograph them! Here is the lovely product that resulted. And with a charming bow to boot.
Bancroft & Telegraph I could write a paragraph about every article this girl is wearing: the sequined top, the electric purple tights, the "hand" painted denim cut-offs (bad joke), the knitted bag, and even her headband. This was one of those opportunities I just couldn't pass up. The way she brought all these elements together into one outfit is flawless -- even more so in person. This is an exemplary case of well-executed personal style. I applaud thee.
I had to do a double-take when I saw this girl walking by. I wasn't sure if she was off to a fancy-schmancy shin-dig or simply leaving campus after a normal day at school. Trading in the typical jeans-and-tee look, she instead chose a gathered gray dress to get her study on. I'd say she made the right decision. A+
Hertz Hall I apologize in advance for my Shaking Hand Syndrome, which produced this slightly blurry picture. Even though I photographed these shoes four times, I still couldn't overcome it! Their obvious beauty seemed to interfere with my hand-eye coordination. Anyways, check these turquoise and silver guys out. All I can say is, nice work, Adidas.
Wheeler Hall If you have stepped anywhere in Berkeley (and probably anywhere else in the world), you know that gladiator sandals run rampant. It's one of those staples that everyone and their mothers have. But this girl decided to break the mold by opting for a sequined edition of this common leather sandal. Not only do these strap-ons have a bit of sparkle, the beads that keep the shiny discs in place give the shoes a refreshing industrial feel.
Bancroft & Bowditch This is another shot I had to (partially) chase after the girl to get. I think it was worth it. I love these shoes because of the mixture of both textures and colors. Aluminum foil meets the almost patent leather shine of the toe at the same time the bold teal and yellow hues pop in their own right while also complementing each other.
Sather Gate I was so excited when I saw this girl walking by that I had to run to catch up with her. Luckily, my panting didn't faze her from letting me photograph this impeccably coordinated neon floral number. And, believe me, the hot pink of her shoes and dress are even more shockingly breathtaking in person (the photo does the outfit little justice).
Sproul Plaza It was bound to happen: I was bound to run into some tie-dye. Fortunately, it transpired in the outfit of this awfully enthusiastic young man. (I didn't even ask him to pose like this!) Drawing from the vibrant Vans on his feet, he made sure that the rest of his get-up shared the same brilliant tones. He even kept his backpack and skateboard in sync.
9/10/09 Bancroft & Dana Dressed for class? More like, dressed for life! She partners a slick, knotted black dress with a pair of killer high-top gladiators and matching Chanel quilted purse. Well done. Well done.
The Golden Shoe Saga continues with our next guest: Gold Toms! She balances a solid-colored tee and lovely floral skirt with a belt, bag, and this awesome pair of
College & Dwight She has paired a cropped double-breasted blazer from a thrift store with a black-and-white printed dress from Out of the Closet and brown slouchy leather boots from Ross to create a stylish, yet thrifty combination.
College & Ashby Look who we ran into on our search for Berkeley's most fabulously attired! Sophia from Berkeley's own Nasty Gal online vintage store. Like the immaculate black and gray-scale pieces shown above, this is just a sample of the amazing staples you'll find at Nasty Gal to quench your vintage thirst.
Can you say color coordination?! Good. Because that is exactly what she is doing. The blue shades and russet-hued boots perfectly highlight her paisley dress, having an eye-popping effect on everyone around her.
