Featured on ELLE.com

As mentioned previously, I was assigned to cover street style at the Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco this past weekend for ELLE.com. The photos have been published on ELLE's website and can be viewed either by clicking on the screenshot above or on this link. Expect to see the unpublished photos soon and the originals in a few weeks.

The Plaid Project: Jack

Describe your relationship with plaid.
Growing up Catholic in the foggy outer reaches (Outside Lands) of San Francisco, I was oft surrounded by Irish. The cotton or wool plaid flannel was a popular choice in 60-degree weather and good for all occasions. Perhaps the relationship with plaid goes farther back for some of these Irish kids, alluding to Catholic uniforms in elementary school. A cheap plaid flannel can be found in a thrift store or low key department store. Bancroft Clothing currently has a sale.

The Plaid Project: Corey

Where do you get plaid from?
I usually pick it up at Urban Outfitters, thrift shops, and occasionally the Gap (yes, I do go to the Gap...).

What's it made of?
It's made of whatever plaid's made of, cotton? I don't know.

Why do you wear plaid?
I like plaid for when I'm out studying all day then going out with friends or on a date: it can look good almost everywhere. And the right color and pattern can make anyone look really good or really trendy. I also secretly love the lesbian plaid, and have lots of lesbian friends who sport it and work it. It's casual, fun, and fits everywhere!

P.S. This is the 500th post on the blog -- yee!

The Plaid Project: Josh

Describe your relationship with plaid.
The girl in my dreams wears plaid. Plaid is what I wear to synagogue. Plaid is the only garment I'll tie around my waist.

Where do you get plaid from?
Gifts, thrift stores, vintage stores.

What's your shirt made of?
God's pubes, cotton, possible slave labor.

Why do you wear plaid?
Whether I'm going to see Guns N' Roses at the Whiskey, or heading to the beach, it just makes sense.

The Plaid Project: Howard

Describe your relationship with plaid.
My relationship with plaid turned pretty serious my senior year in high school. First time I've ever committed to something so fully.

Where did you get this shirt from?
Most of my original plaid came from the closet of my father, stemming back from his adventurous post-adolescent motorcycle days.

What's it made of?
Most of my plaid is made out of flannel.

Why do you wear plaid?
I wear plaid because it's easy and breezy. Just like Covergirl.

The Plaid Project: Justina

Describe your relationship with plaid.
I love plaid. It can be any color, it's super versatile, generally comfortable (especially the flannel variety), and just awesome all around.

Where did you get this shirt from?
Thrift store!

What's it made of?
Flannel.

Why do you wear plaid?
This is one of the coziest things that I own, and it's particularly nice when it's too hot for a real jacket but too cold for a just t-shirt.

The Plaid Project: Graham

Describe your relationship with plaid.
Plaid tassels my nipples with a frozen aesthetical exactitude.

Where did you get this shirt from?
My mother buys all forms of plaid for me. I think [they're] from Eddie Bauer or hand-me-downs from my older brother.

What's it made of?
It's made of synagogue juice, pretty religious.

Why do you wear plaid?
Chest hair visibility + mathematical ordering + literary concoction.

The Plaid Project: Michael

As both a resident of the Bay Area and a creature of comfort, I have grown to appreciate a good plaid pattern on a nice, warm flannel. My love for plaid and my constant desire to experiment with new blog series has brought about what I'd like to call, The Plaid Project. This new series will not only highlight some of my subjects' favorite patterns, but also dig a little deeper into their reasoning behind choosing to wear this type of clothing.

Describe your relationship with plaid.
I love plaid. Period.

Where did you get this shirt from?
Thrift Town, USA!

What's it made of?
Cotton.

Why do you wear plaid?
I wear plaid because it is comfortable and affordable.

Last week, I was browsing through New York Times' style section and noticed that they have a section where readers can submit their street style photos. Last week's theme was neutrals so I decided to submit a photo I took a few days earlier. To see the published photo, click on this link or on the screenshot above.
