A few months ago, I sent out the first issue of my newsletter, where I share things I'm excited about from the previous week. Specifically, I share what I've been watching, reading, listening, eating, seeing, asking, and looking forward to online and IRL as well as content I've created on this blog, my interview blog, Instagram, or elsewhere.

If you're looking for a curated list of what I recommend during the week, you can subscribe to my newsletter here. Here are the archived issues you've missed.

Portfolio Building: Brittany Interviews

My first new interview for Brittany Interviews: Andres Chirino on Video Games

I'm very excited to share a project I've been working on since January: Brittany Interviews. It's a blog dedicated to sharing interviews I've conducted in the past as well as ones I'm hoping to have in the future.

I just published my first new interview in which I discuss video games with Andres Chirino. A video game novice myself, I learned about Andy's favorite games he grew up with, what he's playing currently, and what he's excited about. We took a lot of time to interview, transcribe, edit, and prepare this post so I hope you can follow along and tell me what you think.

2013 in Review

Here are some of the biggest and best moments on Work It, Berk in 2013... And here's to many more in 2014!

This is inspired by this post by Amelia Morris of Bon Appétempt, one of my favorite food bloggers.

January

In January, I spotted this adorable couple on Shattuck Avenue in downtown Berkeley. They let me in on this intimate moment, which added so much more than if it were a solo photo.

 February

In February, I took this ethereal image of a UC Berkeley student on Sproul Plaza. The way she mixed her prints is still mesmerizing.

March

I began my love affair with Sheng Kee Bakery on Telegraph and Bancroft Avenues in March. They serve a variety of sweet and savory baked goods that still surprise me every time.

April

In April, I took my food review of San Francisco favorite, Flour + Water, to the next level by sinking my teeth into what I really thought of my dining experience. I also learned what no to do when photographing food, which helped improve my photography dramatically. (My macro lens helped too.)

May

In May, I shared my love of Grégoire in North Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto on Cedar and Shattuck. Their famous potato puffs definitely made an appearance.

June

In June, I was treated to a weekend at the Vans Warped Tour in Mountain View by Kia. During this time, I stayed at the W San Francisco in SOMA, where I feasted on delicious brunches of poached eggs and more.

July

In July, I spotted this effortlessly chic look at the Temescal Street Fair along Telegraph Avenue in Oakland.

August

In August, I visited the Treasure Island Flea Market for the first time, spotting this lady's gorgeous dyed hair almost immediately.

September

In September, I published the first images from Now and Later, the throwback series that features looks from a subject's past and present. This is but one of the beautiful photos captured during this photo session.

October

After months of impatiently waiting, I finally visited Beauty's Bagel Shop on Telegraph Avenue and 40th Street in North Oakland. The lox was divine.

November

In November, I brunched at Coffee Co in Los Angeles' Westchester neighborhood with an old friend. These are the fluffiest scrambled eggs I've ever seen.

December

In December, I tried modern Mediterranean food at Momed in Beverly Hills. This flatbread is still tantalizing my tastebuds from afar.

Featured on The Daily Beast

Today I was delighted to see that one of the first photos I took of the always delightful Kathleen Murillo of Inspirafashion was featured in a post on The Daily Beast yesterday. The article discussed how Robert Wainblat of Campus Sartorialist, which features Robert's street style photos of Duke students as well as photos from other colleges, was approached by The Sartorialist himself, Scott Schuman, about his blog name. As a contributor to the site, one of my photos of Kathleen was chosen for the article. Click here to see the original article and my photo. Thank you to The Daily Beast for showcasing my work -- this is such an honor!

How to Become a Street Style Darling

Top left: Katie Shillingford by Jak & Jil; bottom left: Miroslava Duma by Jak & Jil; right: Anne-Catherine Frey by The Sartorialist

When I say "street style darling," chances are that a few people come to mind. There's Katie Shillingford, the Fashion Editor at Dazed & Confused. After debuting her ombre locks for Tommy Ton, girls across the blogosphere eagerly snatched up (pastel) hair dye and dip-dyed their 'dos in earnest imitation. In a similar, hair-related vein, there's Anne-Catherine Frey, the Parisian fashion student whose short 'do gives photogs like Scott Schuman and Vanessa Jackman a run for their money (or more like their cameras.) And of course there's Miroslava Duma, the presumably pint-sized former editor for Harper's Bazaar Russia. Her influence has made its way to Tumblr where her sartorial choices are closely stalked followed.

Following an article published by New York Magazine's The Cut on rules for getting shot by street style photogs, I've come up with my own semi-serious, semi-funny tips on how you too can become a street style darling in the likes of Katie, Anne-Catherine, and Miroslava. Without further ado, here's a list of tips I've published over the last couple of weeks on the blog's Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr (clicky click!). Stay tuned for more.

How to Become a Street Style Darling
  1. Wear a shoe with a heel. If you can’t pass as tall enough to model in your free time, you’re doing it wrong.
  2. Substitute pants in neutral tones for bright ones that pop. You should be seen from at least a block away.
  3. Avoid flip-flops, Crocs, Uggs, and other offensive footwear like the plague. Face it: it’s never going to happen.
  4. If you must wear leggings, know that they’re not a perfect substitute for pants.
  5. If you have an affinity towards festive denim, lean towards printed patterns. Just say NO to excessive tears.
  6. Don’t mix cowboy boots with other trends. Avoid altogether if you’re not from a region where they’re native.
  7. Avoid anything that can be deemed racially insensitive or could spark a lawsuit if sold at Urban Outfitters.
  8. Pretend you’re on the catwalk. All the time.
  9. Look approachable. Scowling doesn’t encourage photographers to come-hither.
  10. Have an adorable face. Pinch-worthy cheeks preferred.
  11. Layer lace, knits, leather, and any other material under the sun. If it seems like overkill, add another layer.
  12. Wear lipstick. You automatically gain 5 chic points.
  13. If you’re male, wear pants that don’t require your hand’s assistance to keep them up.
  14. Choose your plaid carefully. An unsightly pattern can ruin your 15 seconds of street style fame.
  15. If you plan to be photographed at a flea market, pride yourself on being the most hygienic hipster there.
  16. If you live in a rural area, move to a city. Photogs won’t travel to those parts.
  17. Be a model.
  18. Befriend “it” editors, photographers, and bloggers. Relish in being photographed by association.
  19. Wait outside of runway shows wearing as many prints as possible. Staring is what you crave.
Feel free to join in on the fun by submitting your own tips using #StreetStyleDarlingTip (singular; not plural) and following the blog on FacebookTwitter, and Tumblr.

Some of the photos I took at last year's Sasquatch Music Festival in Washington have been published on the  San Francisco Fashion And Merchants Alliance's website. Thanks for the mention, SFFAMA!
