Kimchi Tofu Soup with soft tofu, kimchi, and choice of beef
I caught up with my friend Eli at Pyeong Chang Tofu House, a lively Korean restaurant located on the corner of Telegraph and 47th in Temescal, in late July. I've been here at least three times now and was excited to fulfill my long-standing soft tofu soup craving, one of the many dishes in which they're known.
I ordered the Kimchi Tofu Soup. For the uninitiated, when you order this entree, a mini hotpot bubbles with stew composed of soft tofu, kimchi, and a choice of beef or pork before you, while you're also presented with a larger bowl of rice. You pour spoonfuls of stew over the rice and then mix it together. As expected, this flavorful and dynamic dish satisfied my craving.
My friend also enjoyed her Bibimbap and we both liked our bottle of the Draft Korean Rice Wine (here's a similar version). Beyond the care in which they put into their food, it's clear that this family-owned business puts a premium on high-quality service and efficiency.
Next time, I might try a different type of tofu soup or a Kimchi Pancake. If you've been to Pyeong Chang Tofu House what would you recommend trying?
