Pop of Yellow

CALIFORNIA HALL
Khaki, sunshine yellow, black, and charcoal gray collide in this flow-y, yet sleek ensemble. Topped off with an intertwining bracelet, there is little difference between this girl's outfit and that of a model who just stomped off the catwalk.

Whether you’re going out for a night on the town with the girls or even a romantic date, every girl needs a little fashion jewelry to accessorize her ensemble. Adding jewelry to your outfit can help create your own unique look rather than be a Plain Jane. Go ahead and take a risk and convey your sense of style!

The Return of the Acid Wash

100_1709
DURANT & BOWDITCH
Is it 1984 or is it just me? First, I spotted this sign on campus. Then, I spotted the return of the acid-washed denim jacket and now jeans on the girl pictured here. Maybe, I've just been watching too much "Saved by the Bell" or someone has been toying with Hermione's time-turner.

Wild Child

SPROUL PLAZA
Although this girl was a bit camera-shy, her clever kicks certainly were not. These reinvented lace-ups show their wild sides with a hint of jungle inspiration.

Handwritten

100_1704
SPROUL PLAZA
What I really love about this girl's outfit is her handwritten-style long-sleeved top. She has opted for the monochromatic edition of the outfit of a girl I photographed a few days ago.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

100_1705
HEARST & 4TH
This little girl has something else to thank her mother for this Thanksgiving Day: impeccable style. Both of these ladies brought out all of the frills for their pre-holiday shopping.

Suited Up

100_1702
SPROUL PLAZA
I'm proud to announce that the three-piece suit has arrived. Although slightly diverging from the textbook definition of a matching coat, slacks, and waistcoat, this guy's outfit has been firmly set for snazzy.

SF Bay Area Style Blogger Meet up

meet
YERBA BUENA GARDENS AT SF MOMA
This Sunday I met several brilliant fashion bloggers at the Bay Area Style Blogger Meet Up at SF MOMA's Yerba Buena Gardens. I'm proud to say that my fear of encountering a bunch of intimidating fashion zombies was completely unfounded. Instead, I shared an afternoon of coffee and tea with a group of hilarious, intelligent, and obviously quite stylish twenty-somethings.

Here's a list of the attendees. Believe me, all of these blogs are worth a read. They're already in my blogroll!

Erin of Calivintage
Xtina of CandyBox
Helen of Chictopia
Samantha of Fazed-Girl
Jennie of Going West
Christina of ProFreshStyle
Aimee of Song of Style
Vai

Check out photos from the meet-up on Going West, Calivintage, profreshstyle, and candybox. Stay tuned for future meet-ups.

The Matching Principle

100_1701
CALIFORNIA HALL
This blog just got a little bit financial. Yep, you read right: I brought in a hint of Accounting 101. In the same way expenses are recorded when they're incurred, this girl is also abiding by the matching principle. Simply take a look at her impeccably coordinated sweatshirt and skinny pants.

Electric Orange

100_1700
SHATTUCK & ALLSTON
I have to admit: I did not spot this girl myself. I was actually walking with Samantha of Fazed-Girl when she pointed her out. I must admit something else: orange never looked so good. Whether it's the scarf, the coat, or the tights, this girl knows how to coordinate and rather well at that.

Benjamin Buttoned

100_1699
COLLEGE & DURANT
This guy has done the impossible. Okay, maybe not the impossible, but he accomplished something great just the same: he's sporting eleven -- count 'em -- eleven buttons! His expression makes it seem like he even surprised himself.

Berkeley-fied Dapper

100_1698
BANCROFT & COLLEGE
I know what you're thinking: didn't I already post a photo of a guy in the same outfit? Yes, I did. This is his twin. Okay, not really. He swapped the jeans for a nice pair of gray slacks and made the ensemble more Berkeley-friendly will a comfortable pair of Converse All-Stars.

Cropped Squared.. Cubed?

100_1697
BANCROFT & COLLEGE
I like this ensemble for two reasons. (1) The denim jacket gives a reminiscent nod to the 90's, a decade always fun reliving. (2) The three tiers of cropped goodness, composed of the floral cardigan, denim jacket, and black dress, highlight how experimenting with proportions can go oh-so-right. Can I get a YES or yes?

Pale Floral

100_1696
BANCROFT & TELEGRAPH
This girl has clearly taken a page out of the "How to Wear Black and Not Blend Into the Background" book. Actually, she probably wrote it. Just look at her hat, shades, scarf, and purse.

The Wedge

100_1695
BANCROFT & TELEGRAPH
Want to add a few inches to your height, but fear the mere sight of stilettos? Oh boy, do I have a solution for you! Try out a pair of wedged heels, like these wooden beauties. The brown leather straps and the solid heel are guaranteed to keep your from experiencing any lethal tumbles.

This One Time, at Band Camp...

100_1694
MLK JR. STUDENT UNION
... I spotted a girl wearing a fabulous marching band jacket. Okay, so I obviously spotted her on Sproul. Just the same: aren't the golden thread details divine, especially over the outfit's all-black base? The correct answer is, of course, Y-E-S!

The Fur Coat

100_1688

Whether or not you like fur, you have to admit this girl's outfit is pretty sweet. Sea shell earrings, polka dot dress, and patent-leather oxfords? Is there more you can ask for?!

The Girl Who Knew How to Thrift Shop

100_1687
ESHLEMAN HALL
What's amazing about this look -- besides that actual outfit itself -- is that everything she is wearing (except her scarf, which she got in China) is from thrift stores. Want to learn how to master the art of thrift shopping like her? Look no further: she also mentioned she's friends with Missa of Thrift Candy, a blog dedicated to the topic.

The Cool

100_1685
TELEGRAPH & BLAKE
This girl had a particular aura of cool that I was quite eager to capture. Starting from her hunter's hat and trickling down to her lace-up boots, this cool was very reminiscent of a girl I spotted a few weeks ago only blocks away.

This is one of those looks that I would have regretted passing up. The dress' antique-y feel and simple structure caught my eye immediately. Wouldn't you agree?

Floppy Hat

What I really appreciate about this woman's outfit is her floppy tan hat. Though usually seen in summer weather, she has paired it with heather gray and black elements, creating a warmer look.

Holden Caulfield

I spotted this boy working on an assignment for his photography class. He was posing as Catcher in the Rye's Holden Caulfield. Considering the outfit alone, I'd say he aced it.

Interview with BARE Magazine

This past week, I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by BARE Magazine for their four-part Cal Student Blogger interview series. BARE Magazine is the completely student-run fashion and lifestyle magazine created by UC Berkeley students, myself included. BARE Reporter Gina Harris came up some fantastic questions for me and I think this interview is definitely worth a read. If you're interested, here's a link to the original post. Otherwise, the interview is below. Hope you enjoy!

10 Questions for a...Cal Student Blogger
Since its inception, blogging has taken on the fashion world by storm. Offering anyone and everyone the ability to share their thoughts allows for some serious creativity to emerge. This month, the BARE blog will be sharing some of the talented fashion blogs that are being produced by our very own CAL students!

interview
Brittany Curran, a BARE blogger and third year Economics major, runs Berkeley street-style fashion blog, Work It Berk. Highlighting students all around campus, Brittany shows us all that is Berkeley through the eyes of an LA native.

1. What inspired you to start your blog?
I’ve been reading fashion blogs (or blogs, in general) for years. So I guess I just woke up one day and said, “Why don’t I just start one of my own?” And “Work It, Berk” was born.

2. Berkeley is not usually synonymous with fashion. Have you noticed any trends or styles that are Berkeley specific?
Well, I’m not sure if these are actually Berkeley-specific, but flip-flops and gladiators are everywhere. Lately, I’ve seen more leather boots and even the occasional heel. For actual outfits, there’s the classic plaid shirt, jeans, and a hoodie get-up as well as the high-waisted skirt and tucked-in top combo. Tights are big, too.

3. How has living in Berkeley changed your personal style?
Um, I’m not sure if living in Berkeley has actually changed my own style. I’ll always be a prep at heart. I think my style has just matured on its own. I’ve started to wear more solids and classic pieces as opposed to more trendy ones, for example.

4. The most important thing in a girl’s closet is:
White Hanes v-necks. They come in packs of three or five and they’re cheap. They are the perfect base for any casual outfit. (I know I should say something better, like a good pair of jeans.) My friends and I live in them. It’s almost contagious.

5. Favorite item in your closet:
This is a tough one. I’d say it’s a tie between my dad’s old red plaid button-down, skinny black pants from H&M, and my hounds-tooth blazer from Forever 21.

6. Work It Berk is a street-style blog. How do you decide who to approach?
I look for something unique and well put together. That said, I’m pretty picky. I try to avoid trendy styles. What I really love is genuine personal style. This is what fashion is about: knowing what to wear, how to wear it, and loving every moment you’re in it. Also, a great outfit can be ruined by throwing on a pair of ratty flip-flops.

7. Around campus, where are you most likely to be found?
Where there are a lot of people, like Sproul, between Dwinelle and Wheeler, even near Haas or VLSB.

8. If you weren’t blogging, how else would you spend your time?
Reading fashion blogs! Writing for the BARE blog! Um, I guess I could learn to cook. I kind of want to learn how to play those Korean drums on Sproul. They’re amazing!

9. Three things you can’t live without?
Ice cream, v-necks, and skinny jeans.

10. Something we don’t know about you but should:
I want to take yo picture! More seriously, I actually hate shopping. I think if you have a few good pieces and you know how to wear them, you’re set.

Barbie in the Sky with Diamonds

TELEGRAPH & BANCROFT
I spotted these girls waiting in line to pick up their free Chipotle burritos. Opting for homemade Halloween costumes instead of store-bought alternatives, they dressed as "stars in the sky" and "Barbie with a knife in her head," respectively. I'd say their creativity has paid off.
